Sentences with 是…的
(i) 是…的 sentences can be used to emphasize the time, place or manner of an action which took place in the past
Examples:
- 我是去年开始学习法文的。
- 表弟是从加拿大来的。
- 叔叔是坐飞机来的。
(ii) 是…的 sentences can be used to indicate belonging
Examples:
- 这本书是我同学的。
- 那块蛋糕是妹妹的。
- 这盒录音带是谁的？
- 那个手提电话不是姐姐的。
(iii) 是…的 sentences can be used to indicate the appearance or condition of an object
Examples:
- 这件毛衣是红的。
- 弟弟的电脑是坏的。
- 妈妈的筷子是长的，妹妹的筷子是短的。
