The subject-predicate sentence

 

(i) Sentence with a verbal predicate

Examples:
  • 明天我们开生日会。
  • 这位老师姓陈。
  • 王老师教我们中文。
  • 我问姐姐一个问题。
Using the negative word 不
Examples:
  • 下午我们不打篮球。
  • 明天妈妈不在家。

(ii) Sentence with an adjectival predicate

Examples:
  • 今天她非常高兴。
  • 我的裤子太长。
Using the negative word 不
Examples:
  • 这座房子不漂亮。
  • 看电影的人不多。

(iii) Sentence with a noun predicate

Examples:
  • 哥哥今年二十岁。
  • 现在三点半。
不是 is added in front of the predicative noun to make the sentence negative
Examples:
  • 现在不是六点十分。
  • 妹妹今年不是七岁。

(iv) Sentence with a subject-predicate phrase as its predicate

Examples:
  • 祖母身体好。
  • 郊区空气清新。
Using the negative word 不
Example:
  • 姑妈精神不好。
